Results Notification

by IIE Staff

On January 30, 2009, an email will be sent to all 2009-10 applicants for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program notifying them of their application status following the National Screening Committee review.  In addition, on January 29, 2009, the Embark Online Application Manager will open for FPAs to view these results.  IIE will not be mailing status results to FPAs.

Please remember, a notification of recommendation implies the applicant will receive further consideration by the host country, the Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB) and the U.S. Department of State.  The notification should not be regarded as an award letter.

Since recommendation, as noted by Recommended in the Status column, is not an assurance that a grant will be received, please do not release the names of recommended students to the campus press, colleagues or other individuals until official notification is received from IIE on the final outcome of the student applications.  This notification may not be until late spring, in some cases, or later in the case of alternates.

Non-Recommended in the Status column means an applicant is no longer under consideration.

To view the list of applicants from your institution, please follow the below instructions:

1. Go to the website: https://admissions.embark.com/.

2. Sign in using your institution User ID and password [If you have forgotten your log in information, please contact Walter Jackson].

3. Click on APPLICATIONS (lower left-hand corner or from the toolbar at the top).

4. Click on MANAGE (green button in the middle of the page).

5. You have read-only permission. Your screen view should be set to FPA Default.  This will allow you to see a list of students from your institution followed by their status, either Recommended or Non-Recommended.  A few students who withdrew or who were ineligible may have Withdraw or Ineligible indicated in the status column.

The Application Manager will be open to FPAs for viewing the status of 2009-10 applicants from January 29 to February 6, 2009.  After February 6, you will no longer have access to the 2009 applications.

The Next Stage

Recommended applications will be sent to host countries and the Fulbright Program sponsors for final selection.  Candidates will be notified, by mail, of the outcome of this stage.  They could be offered a grant, placed on the Alternate list, or informed that they were not selected for either category and are no longer under consideration.

If offered a grant, candidates must undergo medical clearance, and, in many cases research clearance.  Until all clearances are received, the grant award is not official.

Alternate status is the most difficult for candidates.  Since promotion to Grantee is dependent on several factors, we cannot predict the chances an alternate may have for promotion.  Therefore, we request that candidates not call us to make inquiries.  Alternates remain on the list and will only be contacted if we are able to offer them a grant.  No news is no news!

The success of these award programs is due in great part to the efforts and interest of our many Fulbright Program Advisers.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the considerable time and work that you have contributed.

Fulbright-mtvU Awards

Deadline: March 1, 2009.

Click here for the 2008 grantees.

Up to four awards will be available to pursue projects around an aspect of international contemporary or popular music as a cultural force for expression. Preference will be given to creative projects that are conveyed in a dynamic fashion and are accompanied by a feasible plan. In addition to presenting unique projects on music as a global force for mutual understanding, applicants must submit a Documentation and Outreach Plan describing how they intend to share their activities with their peers during their Fulbright year abroad through mtvU print, broadcast and/or online media. The Documentation and Outreach Plan form must be submitted as part of the Fulbright application.

Applicants are encouraged to consider all aspects of the power of music in developing their proposals. Along with the study of music in a specific cultural context, proposals will be considered in other music-related fields including music and social activism; music in learning; music and the community and musical performance.

Preference will be given to graduating seniors who meet all host country requirements, including those related to language, affiliation and program start dates. Please refer to the Participating Country Summaries for details. Applications for all countries where there is an active U.S. Student Fulbright Program are encouraged.
